The Oculus Go headset has been officially launched today and it's now available for purchase in 23 countries across the globe. There have been rumors that Facebook would release the Oculus Go at the F8.
As for the specs of the Oculus Go, it boasts a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1440.
Oculus had been keeping quiet about when, exactly, Go would go on sale, only saying that it expected to launch the standalone headset in early 2018.
Battery Life: 1.5-2 hours for gaming, or 2-2.5 for video-watching. The Oculus website says the device will ship between May 1 and 11, while Amazon has one-day delivery turnaround. What I did love was the fact that Oculus enlarged the space inside the headset to account for users who wear glasses, removing yet another small point of friction and making the Go friendlier to more users.
According to a press release, the standalone headset features built-in spatial audio and an integrated microphone, while things like headset weight, support straps, and facial interface have all been optimized for comfort.
"We think of VR as a spectrum", said Muthukumar, with the Rift at one end and the Gear VR at the other. Although much of the annual developer event is quite probably going to be taken up with the social network discussing the fallout of recent privacy revelations about the site and its approach to third-party developers, VR is nearly certain to be high on the agenda too. The headset costs $199 for the version with 32GB of onboard storage, and $249 for the 64GB variety. At least, until he gets nauseous.
