Khan makes up for lost time with 40-second Lo Greco knockout

Amir Khan needed to make a dazzling return to the sport after a two-year absence, he truly delivered with a 40-second stoppage of Canadian Phil Lo Greco.

Khan celebrated wildly after almost five years away from a British ring and then stoked up his rivalry with Kell Brook, who was watching from ringside. Its an all British showdown that would sell out any arena in the country, it also has years of build up from real bad blood between the two childhood rivals to hype it up.

Khan's blurring hand speed was evident as he floored Lo Greco (28-4, 15 KOs), 33, with a left hook followed by an overhand right.

Sky Sports has the rights to tonight's Khan vs Lo Greco fight and will be kicking off coverage on its new-look Sky Sports Action channel at 7pm BST.

Amir Khan is looking forward to riding the wave of interest in British boxing generated by the likes of world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua when he fights in the United Kingdom for the first time in five years. They're fighters with a similar style to me so I thought Joe would be a good fit and we got in touch, got on and chose to work with him for the rest of camp and it's worked well.

"People wanted to see me come back and I wanted to prove a point".

"I was a fan, I think you´ve done great", Lo Greco told Khan at the press conference. At the moment I'm a 147 [pounds] fighter.

This is the main reason why Khan signed with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, to land the big money fight with Brook and finally square off against his longtime nemesis.

The Bolton fighter has dropped five pounds in weight since that ill-fated middleweight bout against the now disgraced Mexican fighter in 2016 and looked in good condition on the scales.

The former world champion was making his first appearance in the ring for over two years and his first fight on United Kingdom soil since 2013.

"All the fans want the fight, he can go in the jungle and chase stars but when he gets in with me he will be seeing stars", Brook said.

Promoter Hearn remains hopeful of staging the elusive fight between Khan and Brook, and wants them to be reunited around the negotiating table.
