One consumer gave a testimonial to Amazon and stated that she enjoys having her diaper order delivered to her vehicle as it has made changing her toddler a lot easier and she no longer had to worry about her child's nap being disrupted by the doorbell. Amazon touts the new service as "radically improving the delivery experiences by enabling "in-home delivery and secure home access for guests and service appointments".
Amazon Prime customers who have set up the Key service select it on checkout. For those who own a compatible vehicle, similar to Amazon's Key service that gives deliverers access to homes through Amazon's Key app, they can now open auto doors and trunks when it's time to drop off a package.
Alan Batey, president of General Motors North America noted how these technologies and a service like Amazon Key In-Car delivery demonstrate the usefulness of expanding embedded connectivity to vehicles.
Amazon Key In-Car is now available in 37 USA cities, and currently works with 2015 or newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac with OnStar; and 2015 or newer Volvo cars with Volvo On Call, according to an Amazon spokesperson.
"It's a natural path to think more globally with Amazon", he said.
Amazon has launched a new service that delivers packages to the trunks of cars - for free! "The in-car delivery option is another way Amazon helps ensure that my order is delivered safely and conveniently".
Amazon Prime members must verify they will be parked within a designated delivery zone during a four-hour window and can track the delivery via the Amazon Key app. While we suppose this is convenient, there is also the question of whether or not you want your packages to be in full display inside your auto, which could prompt thieves to smash your windows and make off with it, but we suppose to each their own.
During my test, I received a push notification from Amazon: "Arriving soon: Your package will be delivered to your Volvo".
This is how it works: Prime members with the Amazon Key app can link their auto to their accounts and select "in-car" delivery during checkout. And past year, it introduced Amazon Key, which lets its couriers unlock customers' front doors and drop packages inside. The owner can also track when the vehicle was unlocked and relocked in the app's activity feed. Call 12 for Action checked Providence zip codes and got the green light, but in-car delivery is not available for Fall River zip codes. A selection of alcohol is also available for delivery to customers in Sacramento and San Diego, Amazon said. Now, it's remotely controlled, app-connected locks on houses and cars to let couriers inside.
Amazon says its drivers will try to hide packages and will put them in the trunk if there's room. "This mix of vehicle and commerce is starting the next wave of innovation and we intend to be at the forefront". Customer reviews, 1-Click shopping, personalized recommendations, Prime, Fulfillment by Amazon, AWS, Kindle Direct Publishing, Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Echo, and Alexa are some of the products and services pioneered by Amazon.
