Reports had come out through FOX Sports earlier in the day about how some teams wanted to work the Louisville quarterback out as a wide receiver in the drills.
With that said, there has been something of a freakish groundswell concerning Jackson, who measured at more than 6'2 at the NFL Draft Combine, and a potential move to the wide receiver position. "At first I was going to run, as a quarterback, but then they said wide receiver and I had to let them know I was just going to throw today".
"I'm not going to their team, if anything", Jackson said during an entertaining 15-minute press conference in which he was playful, friendly and loose, but also unwavering in his belief in himself.
The former Louisville standout told the media on Friday at the NFL Combine, that he would not consider a position switch. Former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley has been linked to the G-Men a number of times, so the chances of them taking Jackson later in the draft seem more likely, even with the team confident in Davis Webb backing up Eli Manning.
Louisville's Lamar Jackson during the 2016 football season. I can lead my team. He is not hiring an agent.
When asked which teams he met with, the Buffalo Bills were the first team he mentioned. He has a lawyer who will handle those negotiations, while his mother will serve as his manager. I decided I didn't need one. You know I love DeVante Parker and those guys out there - Kenyan Drake, [Kenny] Stills.
"... I think if he's going to make it, he's going to make it as a quarterback in the right situation".
"Exceptional athelete, exceptional ability to make you miss, exceptional acceleration, exceptional instinct with the ball in his hand", Polian said, "and that's rare for wide receivers". I'm not a ball hog, at all. Jackson has his flaws, but he is one of the most electrifying playmakers in this year's draft. "It may look like it, but I'm not". I'm just saying in general. He's expected to run a blazing 40-yard dash, though he won't be doing so at the combine.
Jackson said he must show National Football League personnel people and coaches he can make the necessary throws by staying in the pocket and improve his footwork.
"I know the veterans want to win". "Just going to high school, they said, 'You can't do this and that.' Got to college, was able to do it".
