A police officer was shot dead and two sheriff's deputies were wounded on Friday in a small Georgia town by a gunman who was then killed, the county sheriff said.
Locust Grove Elementary School has been placed on lockdown as a precaution, reported Fox 5.
Atlanta media reports said a Locust Grove officer and two Henry County, Ga., sheriff's deputies were taken to hospitals, one by helicopter and two by ambulance.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office could not be immediately reached by Reuters for details.
The woman said she couldn't get home Friday afternoon because police had the entire neighborhood blocked off while they investigated the shooting.
The Locust Grove officer was shot and killed at the scene.
One of the two Georgia deputies wounded in a shooting outside Atlanta has been released from the hospital and another was in stable condition after surgery.
The brother of the wounded Deputy Michael Corley, Wade Corley, told Christy Hutchings with the New Talk 106.7 his brother will survive his wounds.
The names of the officers, along with that of the suspect, have not been released.
"The other sheriff's deputy is in fair condition at Atlanta Medical", McBrayer said.

While attempting to arrest the man, an altercation broke out and all four men were shot. They turned away people who don't live in the neighborhood.
