Mets invite Tim Tebow to major league spring training

Tim Tebow of the Columbia Fireflies hits into a fielder's choice against the Lakewood BlueClaws on May 14, 2017, at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The next step in Tim Tebow's baseball journey came on Friday when it was announced he received an invite to Major League camp with the New York Mets for spring training. He started the season at Columbia, ?South Carolina, in the South Atlantic League and was promoted to the Florida State League to play for Class A St. Lucie in late June. He did hit eight home runs and by all accounts was a good teammate and the kind of citizen other people want to be around.

No matter: The telegenic former Heisman Trophy victor will once again be the most scrutinized player in camp as his quixotic bid to forge a career in baseball resumes.

In August, Tebow, 30, said he learned a lot during his first season of professional baseball.

It's not likely that Tebow is going to be at major league spring training for the duration, or even more than just a few weeks. "Almost every day there's something that I've never been through before that I'm learning".

The former NFL QB was just one of nine players the franchise has invited to train with the big league club.

Pitchers and catchers are set to report to camp February 12.
