Earlier this year, a man shot dead 58 people from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, Las Vegas.
Police Lieutenant Gordon Macintosh said police were called to the Hyatt Regency Hotel shortly after midnight to deal with a "drunk, belligerent suspect".
It comes as cities across the USA and around the world step up security for New Year's Eve celebrations.
Houston police arrested an intoxicated man with a cache of weapons in his hotel room early Sunday, according to local media reports. Officers say he fought with security and they tried to escort him back to his room but he was kicked out of the hotel.
The first officers to respond had to call for backup when the boozed up man refused to comply with their orders, Macintosh told the Houston Chronicle website. Police found weapons - including an assault rifle and a shotgun - and ammunition. He said his truck was parked in the hotel garage. "It appears he was just bringing them in", Senties said.
The Las Vegas attack, the deadliest mass shooting in modern USA history, reignited a debate on gun control in the USA, where the Second Amendment of the Constitution guarantees citizens "the right to keep and bear arms". When officers went through his backpack, they discovered over 3,000 doses of heroin, pills, Fentanyl patches, marijuana, more than $2,000, and two human teeth, which police later discovered belonged to him.
