Local animal control said it is searching for the injured pit bull that was shot.
Police say Lorraine Brock Saylor was killed by the dogs as she was putting out bird seed at her home in Arjay, Kentucky.
A pitbull that ran away Sunday morning after a fatal attack in the Wiser Branch area of Bell County, Kentucky was put down Monday afternoon.
Animal control and the Bell County Sheriff's department are now searching for the other dog.
His brother, who heard the commotion, distracted the dogs long enough to allow Johnny Saylor to rush inside and grab a.22 caliber pistol.
Lorraine Saylor was pronounced scene and her husband was transported to Pineville Community Hospital with arm and head injuries.
In that instance, their owner had left them with their dad while she took care of personal issues. The Bell County Sherriff's Department responded to a dispatch call and found the injured couple. Her husband shot both of them, killing one and injuring the other. Both were pit bulls, the caller said.
"Sheriff Mitch Williams is asking the community to be on the lookout for a brown pit bull that is injured", according to the statement. "It's overwhelming the circumstances and what he found", Steele said.
The Bell County Sheriff's Department determined the dogs do not belong to the couple. They are asking everyone in the Arjay area to stay away from the dog if sighted and call them immediately at 606-337-6174.
"I'd seen them, but I didn't think they'd be mean like that".
