Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) releases broad details about its holiday sales period including the fact that millions more Amazon Devices sold in this year's period. Its Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick topped the sales chart, and not just among Amazon devices but from any manufacturer in any category across all of Amazon.
Amazon on Tuesday said this year marked its "biggest holiday season" yet with record level sales. Fire Kids Edition Tablets sold 2.4x as many devices.
Jeff Bezos proved to be his own best Santa, as Amazon's own gadgets were best-sellers on his online store over the holidays.
One eye-catching figure: More than 4 million people signed up for Prime free trials or began paid memberships in a one-week period, according to Amazon. But research from SmarterHQ demonstrates that it's also sticking Amazon with free two-day shipping on millions of items with no minimum order.
It was a particularly good season for Amazon's devices.
Across North America and the Europe, associates at 10 fulfillment centers picked, packed, and shipped more than one million customer packages in a single day. The Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick, and TP-Link Smart Plug Mini were the most ordered items via voice. The most popular item viewed with AR view throughout this holiday season was a black chair with ottoman.
On Prime Video, the most-watched TV season over the holidays was Amy Sherman-Palladino's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and the most-watched series overall was "The Grand Tour" (both Amazon Studios originals). The East Coast of the US requested holiday music from Alexa 250% more than the West Coast did.
Mobile shopping saw big growth this holiday season, too.
"The more that Amazon cannot just get its Echo devices out there, but get its Alexa technology embedded in a variety of things, including cars, that'll be the long-term win", Mark Mahaney told CNBC's "Squawk Alley" on Tuesday.
