One dead at University of Utah shooting, police search for suspect

The Deseret News reports that the university sent an alert at 9 pm to students and staff to take shelter and remain inside campus.

Utah police say they've arrested a man sought in a fatal carjacking near the University of Utah and a Colorado homicide.

Authorities searched the University of Utah campus and the nearby mountains, but called off the searches on Tuesday.

Boutain is also wanted for questioning in the death of a 63-year-old man in Golden, Colorado.

ChenWei Guo, an worldwide student from China, was shot and killed during an attempted carjacking near Red Butte Canyon on Monday night, according to police.

ChenWei Guo came to the USA from China, joined the Mormon church at 16 and later chose to study computer science at the University of Utah.

"This senseless act of violence has shaken our community and ended the life of a dear son, true friend, and promising scholar", University of Utah President David Pershing said in a statement.

One person was killed, Salt Lake City Police Department said on Twitter. His cause of death has not been officially released.

The victim, who was living in the RV and has family in the area, had a green pickup truck with Colorado tags that "may be at large in Utah", Harvey said.

He hoped to one day own a consulting firm and in his spare time enjoyed skydiving, skiing, horseback riding, dancing, modern fashion and French bulldogs, the profile says. He says they have contacted his family in China and are working to bring them to Utah as soon as possible.
