As per the reports, if there is only one nomination filed that the president will be announced on the same date of withdrawal of nominations.
Rahul's elevation as party vice-president in 2013 should have been followed by his promotion to party president fairly soon.
"The government is forcefully trying to change history of modern India by erasing contributions made by Nehru, Indira Gandhi", Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala quoted Sonia Gandhi as saying in the CWC.
Rahul worked for three years with a consulting firm in London between June 1996 and early March 1999 after completing his education at Trinity College. She has also stayed away from the party's election campaign this year. However, the incumbent Congress president is unwell and it's time she passed on the leadership baton.
"Rahulji, but also to crores and crores of Congressmen and women always".
"Unlike Modi - who has associated himself with such ideas as Swachh Bharat - there is no distinctive area with which Rahul has been able to associate himself till now", she said. She also thanked party leaders like chairman Mullapalli Ramachandran, members of the Central Election Authority, and other party workers for carrying out "this huge exercise with utmost diligence, integrity and impartiality". Refuting Gandhi's charge, Jaitley said Parliament sessions were often rescheduled to ensure they did not overlap with elections (Gujarat polls will take place next month). Sources had informed that the Congress was not very keen on having an alliance with NCP after the latter "back-stabbed" the party during Ahmed Patel's Rajya Sabha election.
"The Modi government, in its arrogance, has cast a dark shadow on India's parliamentary democracy by sabotaging the Winter session of Parliament on flimsy grounds", she told the party's highest decision-making body.
