California shootings at multiple sites kill 5, injure kids at school

Authorities have recovered a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns after the shootings in the rural subdivision described on its website as a "quiet private country community" where "the people are friendly and the pace is relaxed". "I don't know any information at this time about any of the victims at the school".

"I'm told the suspected shooter was deceased by law enforcement bullets", Mr Johnston said. "I know that we have Medivac'd a number of students, I know that the school's been cleared".

There were multiple injuries, including a 6-year-old child, according to reports.

An estimated 100 law enforcement officers are investigating at least seven crime scenes, sheriff's officials said.

He said that two officers shot at the suspect upon encountering him, and have since been removed from the scene.

NPR's Nate Rott spoke to resident Tiffany Rodgers, who knows nearly every student at the elementary school and heard the shooting from a nearby cafe. According to police, it appears that the shooter was randomly picking targets.

Authorities were contacted about 8 a.m. regarding "multiple shots fired" in Rancho Tehama, a small area about 135 miles north of Sacramento, according to Phil Johnston, an assistant sheriff in Tehama County.

Authorities in California say three people have been killed and multiple children have been injured in a number of shootings in California. Flint says he had been shooting "hundreds of rounds" from large magazines.

In a statement, California Gov.

Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, said no one was killed at the school with kindergarten through fifth grades. "We offer our condolences to the families who lost loved ones and unite with all Californians in grief".
