Mohammed Siraj & Shreyas Iyer get the nod for New Zealand T20s

Batsman Shreyas Iyer and fast bowler Mohammed Siraj have been named in the 16-man Indian squad for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand, beginning November 1 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi. Ashish Nehra, who will retire after the first T20 game on November 1, has been picked for only that game scheduled in his home ground of Delhi.

India will take on Blackcaps in the T20I series starting from 1st November, which is the retirement date of veteran pacer Ashish Nehra. "I will make it very clear and candid - we have clearly communicated to the player and the team management, that we are only looking at him till the New Zealand series", he said.

Chairman of Selectors, MSK Prasad, said that Iyer and Siraj had been picked based on their consistent performances in domestic and first-class cricket. "Shreyas has been prolific in all forms of the game, be it four-day's format, be it one-day or T20, be it IPL, he has been performing".

Prasad continued: "We can't say that [if he will surely play in the Delhi T20I]". The major highlight being the two new faces included in the squad - Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj.

Besids the inclusion of Iyer and Siraj, there were no major surprises, as India have made a decision to field a strong team for the New Zealand series.

The selectors have recalled KL Rahul as well for the series.

The committee also named the Board President's XI for two-day warm-up tie against Sri Lanka to be played in Kolkata on November 11 and 12. There is no assurance from our side that he's going to play or not. "He is doing well, he has been duly recognised and rewarded as well", he added.

India T20Is squad: Virat Kohli (c), MS Dhoni (wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Mohammed Siraj. Ajinkya Rahane was once again left out of the shortest format team.
