Google, Facebook and Twitter put out fake news on Las Vegas massacre

People tend to the wounded outside the festival ground after a gunman killed at least 50 people on Sunday in Las Vegas.

Danley was also identified as a registered Democrat by 4chan users, who quickly began piecing together a profile of the man they believed to be the shooter. Mashable was able to replicate the result, but the links no longer appear in the module.

Google and other tech giants like Facebook have prided themselves on their commitment to eradicating "fake news". Many far-right users said the incorrect shooter had followed Democratic pages on social media.

Right-leaning social media users and many Trump supporters latched onto Geary's Facebook page, which indicated that he was a fan of the Rachel Maddow show and liked several Facebook fan pages which included, "Thank You Obama, ' 'Fight Trump, ' 'Anti-Trump Army, ' 'Progressive Day, ' 'Organizing for Action, ' 'Not My President, ' 'Proud to Be A Democrat, ' 'Boycott All Things Trump, ' and 'Impeach Trump".

While the Gateway Pundit removed the story, the site's White House correspondent Lucian Wintrich criticized and mocked reporters who inquired about how the site published the piece. The FBI said Monday that there is no evidence suggesting any connection to global terrorist groups - ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, but did not provide evidence.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the company said. A search for "Gear Danley" displayed a direct link to 4chan in the search engine's "Top Stories" section-the carousel of stories that often appear near the top of the page to help surface information relevant to trending topics and breaking news.

On Monday, Facebook said it had done so and also would hire an additional 1,000 workers to police ads on its site. However, their removal was delayed, allowing them to be screen captured and circulated online. Twitter coughed up false rumors and "missing" people who weren't connected to the slaughter. "We are working to fix the issue that allowed this to happen", the Facebook representative told CNN. Google hired the founder of 4chan, Christopher Poole, in 2016, though there's no indication that he's involved with the search results that promoted 4chan. "This should not have appeared for any queries, and we'll continue to make improvements to prevent this from happening in the future".

Google dredged up a search result from internet cesspool 4chan that named the wrong man as the killer. Another top hit goes to a Heavy.com story identifying Marilou Danley as a "former "high-limit hostess" at a casino" that focuses on her ethnicity.
