Bellinger homers, Ks rule in Dodgers 2-1 win over Brewers

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw became the 79th major league pitcher ever to strike out at least 2,000 batters during the team's 2-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Friday night.

ESPN adds that Kershaw reached 2,000 strikeouts at a historically fast pace. Brewers starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson certainly played a part in the Dodger offensive woes, he matched career highs with his eight-inning, 11 strikeout game. Brandon Morrow (2-0) earned the win.

Both teams combined for 42 strikeouts, a National League record. LA tied the game on a homer by Yasmani Grandal off Brewers' closer Corey Knebel in the top of the 9th to send it to the extra frames.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said LHP Alex Wood (shoulder) could start throwing by the end of the weekend, and that tests on Wood's AC joint came back negative. He's the third-fastest pitcher to reach the milestone, behind only Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson.

That's spectacular for any pitcher, let alone one who is nine months shy of 30 years old.

"It will be cool someday". He has not allowed more than two earned runs in consecutive regular-season starts since his last start before going on the disabled list with a back injury a year ago (in June) and his first start after returning (in September).

Milwaukee Brewers' Manny Pina and Jesus Aguilar (24) collide going after a foul ball hit by the Dodgers' Cody Bellinger during the seventh inning Friday, June 2, 2017, in Milwaukee. Hill is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA in six career games against the Brewers, including five starts. It was certainly a major improvement over his outing against the Cards last week when he walked seven batters. Garza has now struggled in two straight starts and it seems likely that his ERA will continue to rise.
